Trezor.io/Start® — Starting Up Your Device | Quick Guide

Welcome to the official Trezor® startup guide. Whether you are setting up your Trezor for the first time or restoring a previous wallet, this quick guide will help you get your device running securely and quickly.

1. Unbox Your Trezor® Device

First, take your Trezor device out of the box. The package should contain:

Tip: Check the packaging for any signs of tampering. If anything seems unusual, do not proceed and contact Trezor support immediately.

2. Go to Trezor.io/Start®

Open your web browser and go to the official Trezor setup page: https://trezor.io/start.

Ensure that the website is secure (check for HTTPS in the URL and the padlock symbol). This is the official page to download the Trezor Suite and initialize your device.

3. Download & Install Trezor Suite

Click on the download button for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Trezor Suite is the secure application that allows you to manage your wallet and interact with your Trezor device.

After downloading, install the application by following the on-screen prompts.

Note: You can also choose to continue the setup process through your browser, but using Trezor Suite provides the most secure experience.

4. Connect Your Trezor Device

Once Trezor Suite is installed, connect your Trezor device to your computer using the included USB cable. The device will automatically be detected by the software.

If your device is not recognized, try a different USB port or cable. Ensure your device is powered on, and if needed, reboot your computer and try again.

5. Install or Update Device Firmware

After connecting your Trezor, Trezor Suite will check the firmware version and may prompt you to update it. Firmware updates include critical security fixes and improvements, so it’s essential to install the latest version.

Click “Install” when prompted, and follow the instructions on your device to complete the update.

Important: Always use the latest firmware to ensure your device is secure.

6. Set Up Your Wallet

Now it’s time to set up your wallet. If you are setting up your Trezor for the first time, you’ll be prompted to create a new wallet. You can also restore a previous wallet using a recovery seed if you’ve used Trezor before.

For new wallets, the device will generate a recovery seed, which is a set of 12–24 words. This seed is essential for recovering your wallet in case your device is lost or damaged.

Tip: Write down your recovery seed on paper and store it securely offline. Do not store it digitally.

7. Confirm Your Recovery Seed

After writing down the recovery seed, you will be asked to confirm it by selecting the words in the correct order on your Trezor device.

This process ensures that you have correctly recorded the seed and can restore your wallet if needed.

Warning: If you lose your recovery seed, you will lose access to your funds permanently. Store it in a safe and secure place.

8. Set Up a PIN

Next, you will set up a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to protect your Trezor device. This PIN will be required whenever you connect the device or make a transaction.

Choose a PIN that is hard to guess, but easy for you to remember. Avoid simple patterns or repeated numbers like "1111" or "1234".

9. Enable Passphrase (Optional)

If you want an extra layer of security, you can enable a passphrase. This works as an additional password, allowing you to create a hidden wallet.

Warning: If you forget your passphrase, you will lose access to any funds stored in the hidden wallet. Only enable a passphrase if you’re comfortable with managing it securely.

10. Add Cryptocurrency Accounts

Once your Trezor device is set up, you can start adding cryptocurrency accounts. Trezor supports a variety of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many others.
